I am Dianne Tuttle, CTC
and the Owner and Qualifier of Academy Travel and Academy Travel School, which I founded in 1989. I have over 30 years of experience in the travel industry and also hold a Federal Bond with the Airlines Reporting Corporation (ARC). I work closely with all cruises lines and tour operators and makes recommendations for vacation packages my clients. I raised $200,000 in private capitol to start my first travel agency. I am the administrator of Academy Travel School founded in 1990 to teach people how to become professional travel agents and start their own home-based travel agency. I also plan, write and produce my own local TV show, “Let’s Talk Travel” on public access channel. I hold positions on the Board of Directors on Commission on the Status of Women, reporting directly to County Board of Supervisors, and secretary on SLOCOPA TV show, a non profit organization, and I am former President of Optimists Club, past Ambassador for the local Chamber of Commerce for 9 years, and I am the founder and director of Travel Connections & Social Club. I am also a travel consultant for Gerson Lerhman Group and Goldman Sacks.
I have been in the travel business since 1979! WOW! That is a long time! I got hired right out of college with American Express and stayed there for 7 years. I have an AA degree from Foothill College and in 1984 received my CTC degree.
Started my agency in 1989
along with my travel school, teaching people to be professional travel agents since 1989 and still teaching today! The travel school is now taught via a virtual website and I can train anyone who can access the internet right from my desktop to their laptop. I believe in the one-to-one hands-on training approach. Once signed up they get the Galileo Icon on their desktop and everything is taught in live time. They learn what a fare rule is and understand what makes them. Along with teaching about tours and cruises and actually calling and making bookings so they are prepared for the real client when they graduate from class.
I was a million + in air ticket sales back in early 90's. Well we all know what happened then. So I closed for a year and was in my bedroom wondering what I was going to do when I grow up! at the tender age of 50. So I restructured and reopened with leisure travel and $5.00 in my pocket.
I started a Travel Club. Using my travel club to run free press releases inviting people to join me for dinner once a month and 10 years later have over 1,000 on my email list. I plan social things to do during the month and plan group cruises and tours. We have been all over the world together. I also offer to help find roommates for those who don't want to pay the single supplement.
I then decided to look into TV. So now I host "Let's Talk Travel" on my local public access TV station in town. I invite my sales reps on to talk about their cruise lines or tour companies or invite someone who has been on a fabulous trip and would like to share it with my audience.
I am starting a "grass roots" effort to put the "professional" back in travel and in travel agents! And why the public should look to a professional travel agent to handle their leisure travel.

I have now added to my business building by having a once a month dance for my travel club. I found a venue in town to hold the dance, hired a great band, putting out press releases all over town and posting on FB, Twitter and LinkedIn about the dance. I also use a different non profit organization each month to donate all the proceeds to. I take the check to them get my picture taken handing them a check and get it into the local newspaper. What better advertising can you ask for free!

Succeeding as a home-based travel agency means using "guerilla tactics" to beat out the glitzy storefront agency down on Main Street. And what better way to do that than to bring the "travel agency" to your customers' homes instead of forcing them to come see you in your "office". For many home-based travel agents this is the kind of "differentiator" that wins them loyal customers.
You may want to use your home to host a "cruise night" when you are promoting cruises or have a Hawaiian-theme party to promote great deals on a vacation in the islands.
The travel industry is a "$4 trillion dollar industry" and you can be part of that. People are making real money in this industry. Whether you want to work part time you can earn as much as $500 (or more) on every sale. That's not pocket change, that's a serious commission. Full-timers are supporting themselves and their families. A lot of them are seeing more of the world that they every dreamed of seeing before. GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE PROGRAM

• 10 weeks program. Each class 2 hours twice a week plus 30 hours of lab time
• Course fee US $1295.00
Excused Absences
Absences will be excused for illness, death or birth in the immediate family or for valid reasons stated in writing, at the discretion of the school.
Unexcused Absences
Each class session you miss will be considered as one unexcused absence. No makeup sessions will be allowed.
Tardiness
Late arrival to class will be considered as one unexcused absence.
Unsatisfactory Attendance
If you have three (2) or more unexcused absences in any class, you will receive written notification of probation and the third unexcused absence will result in termination of the course and no refund will be made.
Make up Work
At the discretion of the school, make-up work may be allowed but will not be accepted as hours of class attendance.
Leave of Absence
Written requests for a leave of absence will be considered by the school and granted at the discretion of the school administrator or director.
Note: You are expected to attend classes as scheduled. However, you are cautioned that the refund policy is effected as cited in this catalog whether or not you attend as scheduled.
Student Conduct
At the discretion of the school, the administrator may dismiss you from school for a serious or repeated incident of unethical or immoral behavior.
Student Services
Students may make an appointment with school administrator. They may make an appointment for counseling for their career, go over test scores, discuss the curriculum, use the library or make use of the school environment with a potential client.
Tuition Refunds before Classes Begin
If you choose to enroll in the payment program that is when your cancel penalty begins from your first payment, even though you have not attended any classes. Students that choose to pay on the payment program will not recieve a refund.
You may cancel enrollment within three working days following enrollment and your first payment that is received. You must notify Dianne Tuttle in writing to receive a refund.
BUYERS RIGHT TO CANCEL
Withdrawal from Course:
You have the right to withdraw from the course at any time with a written notice.If you withdraw from the course of instruction after the period allowed for cancellation of this agreement which is 3 business days following the reciept of the CD-ROM disk the school will remit a refund less a registration fee of $150 within 30 days.
All CD-ROM disks must be returned at the time of submitting refund.
